Been a while since my last update but things have been hectic and I haven't really had the time to sit down and do some work on the site.
Anyway, with the dreaded MOT coming up shortly I've got a few weeks leave so I'm getting some much needed welding done (in the usual places).
Water still seems to be leaking in, I noticed a small lake in the foot well one day so I pulled out the front carpets and all the sound deadening material to see if any damage had been done, luckily only surface rust has appeared and I've left the carpets and stuff out for the time being until I get it sorted.
The 16v seems to of settled in to its new home and has been running well for over 6k miles now.

During my 2 weeks off I decided it was time to get my big brakes on, got the 288mm discs bolted to the new painted suspension which has got poly bushes all round, together with the Volvo 240 callipers. Had a bit of a nightmare with the flexi hoses, I ordered some from rally design (superb quality) but they were the wrong size fittings so the car was left on jacks overnight until I could get a lift off my dad to get up the scrapyard and find something suitable. Well I didn't have high hopes of getting some hoses with the correct fittings and with enough length, however the Peugeot 405 has got some real nice front hoses that were a perfect match - I was very happy! thought I was going to have to re-fit my crappy old single pot sliders/(stickers) back on. Apart from the amazingly better brakes the car seems overall a bit faster, probably due to the old callipers sticking yet again, fuel consumption has definitely improved, together with the lowering springs, bilstein shockers and poly bushes fitted; the car feels completely different to drive, it's nothing like how it was, it sticks to the road with better road holding and hardly any body roll, the only downside is it's a bit more bumpy.... I think I can live with that though. Next up is the rear suspension, hopefully during this easter holiday I can find time to get the 1.8 rear axle on, for some improved acceleration.
The carpets are also back in now as it was getting too cold with only a dodgy heater to get it warmed up.
I really want to get the whole car re-sprayed, I want it done properly so it means everything off the outside and all the glass out, first the roofs gotta get changed as well as the rear arches replaced. At the same time I want to get the chassis rails sorted as I really don't know what's holding the car together!! It's gonna take a lot of time and money and it means I'm gonna have to find a cheap inferior car to drive for a month or so, could always find a cheap rot-box of a redtop equipped calibra/cavi/astra and then break for bits once I've got the manta back. Then there's the other manta that I want to get finished sometime this millennia - just not enough hours in the day or pounds in the pay packet.

If you read the berlinetta history page then this will come as no surprise. Had a little change of plan, the GTE is now gonna be my 'nice' car, once the berlinetta's finished I intend to get this one fitted with a fully tubed chassis with a jag rear axle and a small block chevy providing the necessary power. With the engine and running gear sorted the car will have an elegance kit fitted and a full re-spray. All interior trim is to be re-trimmed, with use of some custom panels dotted around, a nice sound system to be fitted, tinted windows, smart alloys and a subtle spoiler should finish it off nicely.

Not much has been happening again as I bought a carlton as a runaround while both mantas are off the road, it needed a bit of welding and a few bits to get it road worthy but it's done now so it's back to mantas! The carltons a monster though, it's a 3 litre straight 6, 24 valve with massive front discs and rear discs, digi dash, cruise control, leccy windows front & back, air con, power steering - it's got the lot! even a computer to tell you what mpg your getting.
